Built around reliability.
A UK marine and logistics partner formed on the principle that complex cargo movement should feel simple to the client, whatever is happening behind the scenes.
From one berth to five offices
Northsea Marine & Logistics started in 2001 as a two-person port agency at Felixstowe, founded by a former ship's agent who had spent a decade watching the same berths handled with more paperwork than communication. The idea was simple: an owner or charterer should never have to chase status on their own vessel.
That discipline — say what's happening before you're asked — is what clients kept coming back for. As agency clients began asking for help with what happened after the vessel docked, the business grew into freight forwarding, then project logistics, without ever loosening the operational habits the agency work was built on.
Today the same principle holds across five UK offices and a coordinated international network: the client should feel one relationship, not a chain of handoffs.
How we got here
A two-person agency at Felixstowe
Founded by a former ship's agent who believed port agency could be done with more transparency than the industry standard — one desk, one phone line, one berth to watch.
Southampton office opens
Growth from repeat clients who wanted the same team covering the south coast. Headcount reaches eleven.
First project cargo mobilisation
A client's abnormal-load turbine components needed coordinated road, port and vessel planning. It became the template for the Project Logistics practice.
Freight forwarding practice formalised
What had been ad-hoc favours for agency clients — arranging onward freight — became a dedicated forwarding desk with its own licensed customs brokers.
Five UK offices, coordinated global network
Southampton, Felixstowe, Liverpool, Immingham and Aberdeen, with standing relationships in Rotterdam, Dubai, Singapore and New York.

How we actually operate
We communicate before problems become delays.
Status updates go out when something changes, not when someone asks. A delay flagged early is a solvable problem; a delay discovered late is a crisis.
We treat every shipment as operationally critical.
A single pallet gets the same coordination discipline as a multi-vessel project. Scale changes the resourcing, not the standard.
We design around the client's reality — not our internal convenience.
Route plans, schedules and reporting formats are built around how your business actually operates, not around what's easiest for us to produce.

Tom Kessler
Background in multi-modal freight forwarding across Europe and Asia, previously with a global forwarding house before joining to build the dedicated freight desk.
“Most delays happen in the handover, not the transit. We built the desk around owning every handover.”
